"It’s not just construction it’s controlled chaos"

Who are you and what do you do?
"I’m Robert Jones artist and CEO of Jones Designs
I create luxury accent walls hidden doors and interior artistry that’s functional but still one of one."
How did you get started in your trade?
"I got into woodworking at a young age my pops used to make me stay in the garage and work when I got in trouble and what felt like punishment turned into a skill. Back then I was reckless out here hustling just trying to flip a dollar but I always had carpentry under my belt. When I finally straightened up this trade is what saved my life. Turns out staying in the garage was cheaper than therapy. Woodworking gave me structure purpose and a real outlet. Plus Jesus was a carpenter so I figured I was in good company."

What’s something most people don’t realize about your trade?
"Something most people don’t realize about this trade is it takes real grit real hustle and real creativity. Every day we’re problem solving inventing new ways to build and figuring things out on the fly. It’s not just construction it’s controlled chaos. People think we know everything but we really just like doctors.
They practice medicine on patients and we practice craftsmanship on clients.
Same goal though don’t mess it up and keep getting better. And just like medicine the tools and tech keep evolving so if you don’t evolve you get left behind."
Can you tell us about your tool carry setup?
"As far as my tool carry I do mostly finished carpentry. I keep drills an 18 gauge nailer a 23 gauge pin nailer and my bigger tools stay with my track saw router table saw and miter saw."

If you had to strip your setup down to the essentials, what stays?
"If I had to strip it all the way down it’s my hand tools for sure. Hammer, chisel, mallet, hand saw, pencil, tape measure, speed square. The basics never fail. That’s why I rock Holstery heavy. I’m not a tool belt guy I’m a skinny dude and I don’t like feeling like Batman with too many gadgets. I like everything up front on my chest ready to grab and ready to move. The chest rig been a game changer."
What’s a small upgrade that made a big difference in your workflow?
"Small upgrades that made a big difference were the speed square holster pen holders magnet attachments and Pro Mag clips. I do a lot of scaffolding and overhead work so being able to clip my nail gun or drill to my chest without chasing it across the floor is clutch. It made my workflow smoother, more comfortable, faster. And let’s be honest style matters to me. A lot of stuff might work but if it look trash I’m probably not wearing it. I like my setup to function and look clean."
What project from the past year are you most proud of?
"The project I’m most proud of last year was actually a smaller one. The client didn’t know the vision I didn’t fully know it either but they trusted me. It took patience multiple visits and a lot of back and forth. The project ended up honoring a loved one they lost and it became way bigger than just the work. They became family invited me to events sent referrals and still speak highly of me. That’s when you know you did something right
It wasn’t just a build it was a relationship."
